What is GenCircles' policy on respecting privacy?
With the current state of the Internet and online genealogy, privacy takes center stage at GenCircles. There is nothing that we put first before respecting the privacy of our users and their private individuals and ancestors. GenCircles' policy is to never share any personal information about our users with any third-party. In fact, we don't even collect personal information. When you register with GenCircles, we do not ask for your home address, credit card, or phone number. All we ask for is your name and email address.
What do you do with my email address?
The GenCircles web site is a community based web site where you can interact with other users. This makes it necessary for others to see your email address. However, we do not share your email address with any advertisers or third-parties. Additionally, your email address is displayed in a fashion that makes it impossible for junk-mailers to pickup your address using automated computers.
What about cookies?
GenCircles uses cookies but only to benefit you. Contrary to popular myth, cookies do not collect personal information about you. They are only there to help you store previous information that you have given a web site. For example, GenCircles uses cookies to help you automatically login, if you so desire. If at any time, you do not feel comfortable with GenCircles' cookies, you can delete them using any number of methods available on the Internet (search for "cookie crusher"). Cookies are a safe part of the GenCircles web site, and would never be used against you.
What about the private individuals in my genealogy file?
GenCircles uses every known method for calculating whether your file contains information on living individuals. Once we find evidence that an individual might be living, we prevent our system from showing this individual to the public. Of course, the owner of the file can still view these private individuals.
If you are still concerned about your privacy, please read The GenCircles Promise.
