Census entries suggest that Joel and family may have been at Lisle (Broome Co) NY. in 1820 and at Smithville (Chenango Co) NY. in 1830. Joel's widow, "Fanny", resided at Fairbanks, Ind. in 1850 with her four youngest children. She is not noted in the Sutherland genealogy. Much information on this family has been provided by Mrs. Helen M. Drake, 2220 North Fort Avenue, Springfield, MO. 65803, whose husband descended from Mercy Eliza (Taft) Barnes. Son Silas Taft, married Lydia Monk, who was born about 1823. She may be a cousin and number 169A in Neil Todds Silas part 1. If this is correct, then Lydia would be the daughter of Abram Monk & Abigail6 Taft (Job5, Silas4, Stephen3, Benjamin2, Robert1).
