| South Carolina Crains and Cranes |
I put this file together as a research tool. It contains a lot of information on Caucasian Crain and Crane families that were in South Carolina in the 1800's, along with a few connected surnames. My own research was mainly from census data and several books in the local library. Some information was culled from online and e-mailed files. If I have inadvertently included priviledged information, please notify me ASAP so I can remove it. In my branch, a major puzzle has been which of the early Crane/Crain families in the 1790-1840 Pendleton Census were the ancestors of the families from 1850 on. This file contains a lot of speculation along those lines, and should not be used as a source of family connections. If you have information that you're willing to share that supports or contradicts these speculations, please e-mail me. Hopefully, this file will become more correct and refined as more information comes to light. A probable annoyance is that I fudged a lot of birth years and one or two death years to keep my software (and GenCircles) from saying "Living" for people of earlier generations. Those dates should at least reflect the approximate era in which a person lived, and will hopefully be more useful than something like "WFT est. 1700-1850". Please also e-mail me if this file says "Living" for anyone obviously born before 1895 or so, or if information is shown for a living person. Happy digging!
