Rhoda Monk was the eldest child of Mary Roberts and Shadrack Monk. She was born in about 1784, probably in Washington County, VA(now Russell County). At about age 17, she married Joseph Riddle. They moved first to Hawkins County TN and then to Cumberland County KY and had 13 children, 7 boys and 6 girls. Joseph died at age 79, and Rhoda died a few years later in her mid-seventies
