In the name of God Amen. the 24 day of March 1671\72 I William Sargent of ye town of Emesbury in ye County of Norfolk Massachusetts in Newengland Seaman being in pritty good health of body & of sound & pfect memorie (praise bee given to god for ye same) & knowing ye uncertainty of this life on earth & being Desirous to settle things in order doe make this my last will & testamt in manner & form That is to sayFirst & principally I comend my soule to Allmighty God my Creator assurdely believing yt shall recieve full pardon & free remission of all my sins & bee saved by ye pecious death & meritte of my blessed Savioc & Redemmer Christ Jesus & my body to ye earth from whence it was taken to bee buried in such Decent & Christian manner as to my Executoed hereafter named shall be thought meete & convenient.
And as touching such wordly estate as ye lord mercy hath lent mee my will & meaning if ye same shal bee imployed & bestowed as hereafter by this will & Testament Item I give & bequeath to my grand child William Challis five pounds & to my grandchildren Elizabeth, Lydia, Mary & Phillip watson Challis to each of them twenty shillings
Item I give & bequeath unto my grand children Dorothie & Elizabeth Colby to each of them twenty shillings Item I give unto my grand child William Sargent thirty shillings Itt I give & bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth ye wife of Sam Colby five pounds Item I give all ye remayndere of my estate (these my legacies & my funeral charges being firste paid) unto my daughter Sarah both howsing & lands, chattels & other movables wt foever always pvided that if she die wth out children that these howsing & lands: to bee equally divided: unto my four children hereafter

There was still another WILLIAM SARGENT, of Charlestown, 1638-45. It is
stated, G. R. 1885, p. 291, apparently on the authority of Somerby, that the
two William Sargents of Amesbury and Charlestown were brothers, and sons
of Richard Sargent of London. The eldest son, William, held a position in
the navy, was left behind in Virginia, where he married his first wife, Judith
Perkins, and had by her two daughters. His parents, supposing him to be b. ab. 1598; m. [1st, (13) JUDITH2 PERKINS; 2d,?] (16) ELIZABETH2 PERKINS; 3d, Sep. 18,
1670[A Nk S], Joanna Pindor [wid. of (2) VALENTINE2 ROWELL]. He is said to have been one
of the first settlers of Ip. in 1633; afterwards of Nb.; one of the first settlers of Hm. in 1638; recd. land
in S. in 1640, '41, '42, '43, and '54; commoner and taxed in 1650; moved early across the Powow;
one of the original settlers of A., where he recd. land 1654-68; a "township" for one of his sons,
1660; meeting house seat 1667; d. ab. 1674; will March 24, 1670-1; April 13, 1675. Wid. Joanna

WILLIAM SARGENT, believed to be the son of a Richard Sargent, was the first of the
name to find a home in this country as far as any records show. He came to America in
1633 and settled in Ipswich, Mass. In April of that year William Sargent is named in an
act protecting various grantees of land then at Agawam, now Ipswich. The next record
of this Sargent is that of his oath of allegiance in 1639. He married in 1633 Elizabeth,
