| Kinship of Adeline Wilde Warren |
By the time she reached the age of ten years, Adeline Wilde's life was already very complicated. The daughter of early cloth factory workers from probably the midlands of England, she had been born in Dutchess County, New York, the last child of a large family. Her father and mother, and an older brother, died during the American Civil War. Adeline was adopted by her older sister Mercy and her husband Daniel Warren, himself a Civil War veteran, reputedly a descendant of the Massachusetts family prominent in the American Revolution. Fragmentation of families in the early industrial era was common; Adeline's paternal grandmother remarried at least once, and adoption of her children followed. The roots of these families is a topic of ongoing research. Adeline lived a long and productive life in New York, Kansas, Montana, and Oregon before death and burial in Tacoma, Washington.
