Some records have his name spelled: Marquis Lafayette Armstrong.

Marquis Lafayette was on the jury list for Columbia County in Oct. He was listed as a resident of Scappoose.

"ML Armstrong died in Fossil 29 Sept 1896 of Bright's disease. He was born in Madison Co., Illimois 21 April 1831 and crossed the plains with his father's family in 1852. He settled on the lower Columbia River, living on Sauvies Island and in Vancouver, following his trade of brick maker.
He lived for a time in Portland. In 1876. he went to eastern Oregon and has resided in Gilliam Co., ever since."

Correct name was Marguis De Lafayette, but went by name Marcus or Markus.

The Big Tree: www.capow.com/Roots/master21.htm states died at Butte Creek, Jackson Co., Oregon.

time of the census the family was living near where the Catholic Orphanage
was in Vancouver.

Marquis had a DLC in Clark Co., Washington. It was bordered by Fourth Plain
Road and NW Lakeshore Road. Fruit Valley School is listed in that area on
the old maps.

Roger Knowles Thompson's records state marriage date April 20, 1854, Sauvies Island, Columbia Co., Oregon.
