The Boyntons are an English family who derive their name from Boynton, an ancient village in the eastern part of Yorkshire. Bartholomew de Boynton (Bovington) in 1067 was seated at the Manor of Boynton. But, according to the Doomsday Book, There was a Gent named Torchil already there.

The first Boynton in New England was William, a schoolmaster, son of William XXIII generation from Bartholomew de Boynton (Bovington). Born in Knapton, England, in 1606, hecame to this country in 1635. He settled in Rowley, MA, in 1643.

John, born in Knapton, England, in 1614, came to New England with his brother, William,in 1635, and also settled in Rowley in 1643. There are descendants of these brothers living in Rowley today.

Another William lived in Salisbury before 1670.
