Notes 
Individual:
Joshua and his brothers were farmers in Huntington, Long Island, New York. They were Loyalists during
the American Revolution, and ultimately to the Colony of Massachusetts, where the first two original Oakes brothers immigrated from England in approximately 1640. During the Revolution they remained loyal to The Crown and removed from the colonies to Nova Scotia. It was there that Joshua married Catherine Mahlman.
