Here's Andrew J. Crane in Jackson Co. in 1843. Now is this the father of Wm H.
Crain, or the father of Milley, Andrew J., and James F. M. (Frank) Crain?

Thank you for your email message. I checked this index briefly (it is organized by surname) and found only two Crain's in Perry County: 1) A. J. Crain on page 60, line 3; and 2) Benj. Crain, page 66, line 13. There were no Andrew Crain's in this index. 1855 State of Illinois Census.

Andrew is not in the 1858 Perry County tax list, Benjamin, James, and William H.
I think we can narrow Andrew J.'s death down better than that. His two daughters by Mariam died in January of 1857, Mariam died in December of 1857. I believe that Andrew J. was still living at this time, because all his land, etc. went to William H. would they have not gone to Marium if she outlived him, then on to some of her relation? Maybe not since Wm H. was a son, but I think it's a possibility. Also, there are markers for Marium and the girls, someone had to see to them, if Andrew was already dead, wouldn't he have a marker to most likely? I place him dying sometime after December 1857 and before the 1858 tax list was completed.
There is a letter in his probate file that states that Marium had died. This would mean that AJ died before her. He would have died between Oct 15 1857 and Nov 30 1857. Document in his probate was signed by him in Oct 1857 and probate approved Nov 1857, Marium died a month later, Dec 18, 1857.
Also in probate file is a document from court that states that John Crain of Washington Co, IL is the brother of AJ Crain and his lawyer is his son Joseph Addison Crain.
