Did Jenny's birth year on the fact that there is a 17-26 year old female in the 1810 census living with Benjamin. She would have been about 16 when she married Benjamin.
Jenny is possibly the daughter of Cuthbert Shelton of Muhlenburg Co, KY. He had children Lydia and Hall that married in Knox County, TN in the early 1800's as did Jenny. Benjamin named children Cuthbert and Hall.
The only known child of Palatiah and Mary (HARBOUR?) SHELTON is listed as Gabriel SHELTON, and the children of Palatiah and Ann (?) SHELTON as Jenny, Sariah and Palatiah.
Jesse SHELTON, b. ca 1801, is mentioned on p. 54 of the Gart book as another possible descendant of Palatiah and Ann SHELTON. The following data is included:
Deed dated 24 Nov 1829 from Aaron NORMAN to Jesse SHELTON for land in Anderson Co., Tenn. He purchased 25 acres in Racoon Valley, part of Patrick CAMPBELL's survey. This land SHELTON sold on 8 Sept. 1830. In Anderson Co. in 1830 and 1840 On Knox Co. 1836, 1844, 1845 tax rolls On 1848 and 1849 Knox Co. list of insolvents Paid taxes for one poll in 1850. In 1850 Knox Co. census. Daughter Malinda, "d/o of Jesse SHELTON," m. Hezekiah OAKS 24 June 1851
A Shelton researcher that more than likely descends thru Ralph Shelton III has told me that Jenny Shelton that married Benjamin Crain is the likely daughter of Cuthbert Shelton, son of Ralph Shelton III, but no exact proof. Walter Shelton
