--------
Believe his middle name was Leonard per information from widow of Cecil
Drown in McKean, Pa. in 1983.
John served in the Revolutionary War, having replaced his father in the
service on March 4, 1783 in Newburgh, N.Y. John inherited one (1) sheep
from his father. One record shows John as being a minister. This may be in
error resulting from the abbreviation Rev. used in many records to indicate
a veteran of the Revolutionary War.
Excerpt from "History of Erie County":
John Drown established first home with Sally in Tamworth, N.H. They
subsequently moved family to: Lebanon, N.H.; Parsonfield, Maine; and in 1813
moved to Wayne Center (near Lyons), N.Y. Bought land from Sam Holt on Old
Ridge, Preemption Road. This was sold to Aaron Waterbury and they moved to
land at the foot of Dodd's Hill, where Sally died. His son Solomon came and
lived just south of him. In 1831, John, and his son, Solomon, relocated to
McKean, Pa.
John purchased his home from Ben Grant in McKean where he subsequently died.
1983:
He is buried in the Old Golden Cemetery on State Route 99 near McKean, Pa.
His marker is in excellent condition and is located toward the rear of the
left hand side of the cemetery.
His farm (may have been the farm owned by his son John) on Dunn Valley Road
in McKean (in 1983 owned by Mr. Hess) was the third farm past the farm
occupied by the widow of Cecil F. Drown at the time of my visit in 1983.
